About Metal Taboo

Metal Taboo is a New York City based company that displays and celebrates certain aspects of human
nature--our ongoing arrogance, sexuality, vulgarity, frustrations, and angst. Express yourself! We are
always pushing the envelope so check back in often to see how far Metal Taboo is willing to go!!!

The Motivation

The honest truth is Metal Taboo was started during a very routine glance at Etsy. Those of you who are not
familiar, Etsy is the largest website selling handmade items. Anyway, during this search, I found an
overwhelming abundance of happy, love filled, we are the world, happy go lucky, positive message
necklaces, bracelets, etc. After about 10 minutes, I said out loud, "Does the overall population feel so
fucking happy and only care about love?" I decided the answer was no and thought I'd make some pieces
for the ones who don't.

It's a crazy world out there. And in all honestly, we're in some emotionally pressing times--war is abundant,
money is scarce, spirits are breaking, and people are pissed. On the lighter side, everyone loves the rock
star, the bad girl, and the villain. We all crave sex, music, and vices.

Instead of pretending not to feel this angst and love these things, why not embrace them? Everything is
good in moderation. Getting it off your chest (or on your chest) is sometimes the best medicine to fixing our
problems and vices. Hence, Metal Taboo.

The Pieces and Materials

As for the pieces, a lot of thought, time, energy, effort, and lust are put into each piece. Metal Taboo items
are made using metalsmithing techniques including stamping, oxidizing, drilling, sawing, polishing,
soldering, etc. On top of that, we only use top of the line natural materials--solid sterling silver instead of
silver plated, gold-filled instead of gold plated, and natural metals like copper and brass.

About the Designer

Metal Taboo is the brainchild of metalsmith and designer Tiffanie Drayton. She is a trained, but mostly
self-taught metalsmith. She began making jewelry years ago when she took a metalsmithing class in NC.
Ever since, she has continued to work on her craft and learn new techniques. She moved to NYC a couple
years ago and now works out of her studio in Brooklyn.
